Performing Marriages—Among Our Favorite Tasks

We have many difficult responsibilities to routinely discharge at Cleveland Municipal Court, but presiding over marriages is easily among our happiest assignments.

Couples who wish to be married must first obtain their marriage license from the Cuyahoga County Marriage License Bureau, located in the Lakeside Court House, at One Lakeside Avenue.

Marriage appointments must be made in person at the Clerk of Courts office. The couple should present their county marriage license to the clerk when scheduling their wedding date. Marriages are performed on Mondays and Fridays, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., excluding legal holidays. A $20 fee (CASH ONLY) shall be paid at the time of scheduling the marriage. Sorry, but marriages can only be performed for residents of the City of Cleveland and the Village of Bratenahl.

You will receive a confirmation of your marriage date at the time you schedule your wedding. On your scheduled wedding day, the couple should report to the judge’s courtroom that is indicated in the official paperwork.
